Fonts are yours to choose. Settings → Document Style → Fonts sets six font aliases (serif, math, mono, cjk-serif, cjk-sans, cjk-kai) from pickers that list only fonts suited to each. Styles and notes name an alias or a font, and a bar above an open style shows what each alias currently is.

    New

    • Base style: every setting with its default, fonts from Settings. It is the new default style; LaTeX, Modern and Chinese Academic build on it. The Styles list shows them as a tree.
    • Word count under the editor: words and Chinese characters (字) of the visible prose, and pages; select text to count part of it.
    • Note Settings shows what each "Style default" actually is (e.g. "Style default · 12 pt", "· Times New Roman") and has a font row per role.
    • Return renames and ⌘⌫ moves to the Trash in the sidebar.

    Nothing changes silently any more

    • A font a document needs that isn't installed is an error (no PDF) instead of a quiet substitute. Chinese fonts are only required in Chinese documents.
    • An unknown style: is an error; an unknown header key or invalid value is a warning on its line.

Renamed settings (update notes and style files from 0.1.0)

    • Header keys are now the style settings' own names, one spelling each: text-font, math-font, code-font, cjk-font, cjk-heading-font, cjk-code-font, cjk-emphasis.
    • cjk-emphasis (a font, or bold) replaces emphasis and cjkfont: kaiti-style keywords.
    • In style files, extends: replaces base:, and latin-font / mono-font are text-font / code-font. Font candidate lists are gone: name one font or an alias.

The first release of Marker: a macOS editor for Markdown and Typst that exports LaTeX-quality PDFs, made for university reports in English and Chinese.

    Highlights

    • Markdown with LaTeX math, numbered figures, tables and equations, and cross-references (@fig:x, @tbl:x, @eq:x, @sec:x), typeset by Typst.
    • Proper Chinese typesetting (思源宋体/Songti, Kaiti emphasis, two-character indents).
    • A live A4 or endless preview that scrolls with the editor; double-click or ⌘-click to jump to the source.
    • A library of plain .md/.typ files in iCloud Drive with folders, search and autosave; moving a note takes its images along.
    • Built-in styles (LaTeX, Modern, Chinese Academic), your own style files, and per-note settings.
    • An MCP server and skills for Claude Code and Codex: set up from Settings → Agents.
